Jitterbug

Jitterbug was born in England on May 7, 2008. When she arrived at 10 weeks old she already weighed 20 pounds. Now, 3 1/2 years later, she is a whopping 105 lbs and built like a linebacker. Very solid girl.

I went with a British dog this time to try to bring the old stock back to this side of the water. Nanüü has too many siblings with epilepsy and there is no way to know, at this time, if he is a carrier. That being said, he won't be bred, so I had to start over. Obviously, epilepsy is a problem in the breed everywhere, but we do what we can to minimize the danger.

Jitterbug is somewhat unusual in colouring in that she stayed black. She is the spitting image of her mother, I hear, though. She has blonde streaks in her bangs which are twinned over both eyes, plus a blonde butt under her tail, very striking in looks. She is extremely gentle and loves her cats, but if they don't hold still that big paw flattens them. Unfortunately, she doesn't quite understand her weight. Like most Otterhounds, Jitterbug is fairly clumsy. She still trips over her feet and ears and bangs into things, especially if she's on a track. Jitterbug, like most OH's, loves the water. Muddy, clean, it doesn't matter to her. She will not be seen in the show ring any time soon, though, as she absolutely hates shows and other dogs barking.

March 4, 2013 - It is with great sadness I announce that there will be no Dragonwing Otterhound puppies. Jitterbug started having seizures shortly before Christmas and has now been diagnosed with ideopathic epilepsy. With no known cause we can only assume it's genetic. She is still our big baby, but she has some issues we have to work around. Hopefully medication will control it as she's too big to lift. Meanwhile she is very happy and enjoys her little sister Belle, especially in the snow. We'll see how she likes Georgia when we move.

Jitterbug was spayed Feb 18,2014. She is doing very well in Georgia. The heat and lack of stairs are both helping her hips immensely. I'm sure she misses snow, but she's better off down here. Her epilepsy is semi-under control. She is just going through a medication adjustment right now.

Jitterbug had a bought with cancer on her lip in October of 2016. Surgery went well and we decided to decline chemo. She has a few good months but her arthritis took a very bad turn in the summer. We ended her pain on Sept 6th, 2017, on my birthday. It was my present to her and now she can run free with Nanuu and her cats Gizmo and Mango.
